Step It Up

Welcome to Step It Up, offering you bite-sized inspiration, practical advice and a supportive community to help you achieve your daily step count goal. I know how hard it is to maintain a good walking habit - even though it’s an activity I love and write about (more about that below, if you’re interested).

Does life – or work – sometimes get in the way of you completing your steps, too?  

What’s the answer? Let’s take a walk together and see what we can do to improve things.

Step It Up can flex to your needs - just let me know if there’s something you would like me to do more or less of. For now, this is the plan:

  • On Mondays, there will be a piece up to 1,000 words long (that’s about a 5-minute read), usually focusing on a theme for the month.

  • On Wednesdays, it’ll be an interview, guest post or other article.

  • On Fridays, I will start a chat, where we can share stories and photos of our walking week.

  • On Saturdays, you’ll receive a summary of the week’s activity.

  • On Sundays, I’ll do a roundup of news in the walking world and recommendations of reading, listening, walks, or anything else I think you’ll be interested in.

The articles will drop into your inbox and you can read them there, but I prefer reading on the Substack app.

Who’s doing the writing?

Hi! I’m Julia. I discovered my love of walking in my 50’s, and share that with others through my writing. I have written walking guidebooks for Cicerone Press and Northern Eye Books (with more on the way), as well as books about my experiences walking the South West Coast Path (in Live Your Bucket List) and the Camino in North West Spain, and I’m looking forward to writing here, where I can listen closely to what you want to read.
